COMMUNITY SERVICE: The greatest single or continuing contribution to the community in the calendar year for 2001.
In 2001 CFRB expanded its annual radiothon from one day to three days. The 31 hour CFRB Have a Heart for Sick Kids radiothon February 12-14 raised $560,000.00. In 10 years CFRB has raised almost $10 million for Toronto's Hosital for Sick Kids. In an attempt to help kickstart the Toronto economy after September 11th, CFRB encouraged listeners to go out and shop. We called the campaign GO SHOPPING NOW. For five weeks, listeners were asked to e-mail the radio station - telling us 'what' they bought - 'where' they bought it - and 'how much' they paid. They had to retain their receipt for verification. Then every Monday Morning - CFRB and Alba Tours thanked one economy booster with an all-inclusive trip for two to Cuba. In five weeks - CFRB listeners participating in the campaign spent nearly $5 million in Toronto area stores.

Contribution to BUILDING CANADIAN TALENT (note: for Talk Radio this will be based on special events coverage):
September 11th terrorist attack on America. Unlike 680NEWS, we didn’t throw the switch to CNN. We did our own coverage with Taylor Parnaby, John Moore and Christie Blatchford in New York and Washington. They were backed up by our team of reporters and talk show hosts in Toronto. We hired Ben Works, a US military consultant to the Pentagon and the White House to provide CFRB listeners with analysis of the military action in Afghanistan. We carried all major announcements and press conferences live. CFRB was the anchor for coverage by Standard stations across Canada who picked up our programming September 11th. We did daily Q&As with CBS reporters in the war zone on the morning show, afternoon drive and the talk shows for almost four months. CFRB also was the only private Toronto radio station to provide comprehensive live coverage of the riots at the Summit of The Americas in Quebec City with our own team of reporters filing via Studio 1010 – the station’s mobile satellite studio.

EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE OR ACHIEVEMENT during the calendar year 2001:
