Executive Conference Puts Digital Trends and Technology in Focus
With No-Holds-Barred Look at Key Issues Affecting
The Music, Media and Technology Industries

Toronto, Ontario (November 26, 2002) – Author and consultant Don Tapscott delivers the opening keynote address at It’s a Digital World – the title of this year’s Canadian Music Week Executive Conference, which takes place February 27 to March 1, 2003 at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto. Also confirmed for the three-day event are music industry analyst Bob Lefsetz, author Andrew Hill, producer Daniel Lanois and recording artist Pat DiNizio. Past speakers at the conference have included: Clive Davis, Malcom McLaren, Ice-T, Henry Rollins, Chrissie Hynde, Phil Ramone, Chuck D., Thomas Dolby, Moby, Nicholas Negroponte and Lou Pearlman. Additional speakers will be announced at a later date.

An authority on business strategy and a consultant to Fortune 100 companies around the world, Don Tapscott has written nine books on the application of technology in business, including Paradigm Shift (1991), The Digital Economy (1995) and Growing Up Digital (1998). Tapscott’s message will focus on solutions for “how to compete with free/industry at risk” challenges that the new technology has imposed on the music industry.

Bob Lefsetz, author of The Lefsetz Letter, will deliver his sometime controversial observations on downloading, records, love and the music industry. He will be interviewed by Jake Gold, President of The Management Trust (The Tragically Hip, Watchmen), and participate in a “State of the Industry” Town Hall moderated by Bruce Allen.

Andrew Hill, author of Be Quick – But Don’t Hurry, presents his 20 “secrets” to successful management based on his experiences with legendary college coach John Wooden. He is a former programming head of CBS Television, having produced hits like Dr. Quinn and Walker: Texas Ranger.

Daniel Lanois
touches down for an intimate Q & A followed by a solo acoustic set. Recently signed to Epitaph Records’ Anti imprint, Lanois will release his third solo album, Steel, in January. Lanois has worked with such artists as U2 on All That You Can't Leave Behind, which won him a Grammy and a JUNO Award. He has also helmed albums for Bob Dylan (Time Out of Mind, Oh Mercy), Peter Gabriel (So, Us, Birdy), and Willie Nelson (Teatro), and performed various instruments on those artists’ releases as well.

Pat DiNizio is the founder, principal songwriter, guitarist and vocalist for the platinum recording artists The Smithereens. He is currently program director and radio personality for XM Satellite Radio’s "XM UNSIGNED", the first ever and only national radio station to focus solely on the music of unsigned bands, emerging artists, and independent record labels.

Additional Conference Highlights:
