Songwriters
will compete across Canada for their chance
to be discovered with the National Songwriting
Competition, sponsored by Standard Radio,
in association with Songwriters Association
of Canada and select regional radio stations
across Canada. The grand prize includes
$10,000 in cash (first runner-up receives
$2,500 cash), production from Big Sugar's
Gordie Johnson, 30 hours mixing and mastering
time from Metalworks Studios, promotional
release by Universal Music Canada, and a
tour of the Gibson Guitar Factory in Nashville,
TN, accompanied by Big Sugar's Gordie Johnson.
The
contest attracts thousands of entries each
year from songwriters across the country.
From these applicants ten winners are chosen;
one from each province spanning from British
Columbia to Newfoundland. The premise for
the contest is to recognize new talent in
Canadian songwriting. Any self-published
or non-published songwriter residing in
Canada is eligible to enter.

Ten
radio stations across Canada will be soliciting
demos of unpublished songs and the best
writer for each region will receive, an
all-expense paid round-trip to Canadian
Music Week, February 27 March 3,
2002 at the Westin Harbour Castle, Toronto,
a private seminar with Canadas most
successful songwriters, as well as an Audio-Technica
AT3035 Studio Microphone and an Epiphone
AJ 10 Acoustic Guitar. Entry deadlines vary
with participating stations in each region..
