The Politics Of Live Music: The Year In Review
Thursday March 4, 2004 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Westin Harbour Castle Hotel
Most politicians don't know politics as well as bookers and
venue operators do, so awash are they in regulations and government
good-intentions run amok. This session will present a grab
bag of legitimate concerns, including how acts are treated
at the border, taxation, immigration regs, the hefty 15% withholding
tax, insurance and the differences in application between
the music and film industries. Operators on all sides of the
concert-booking experience will hash out revenue issues like
tax harmonization, ticket price elasticity, the effects of
the record industry downturn and the suddenly bullish loonie.
