Hottest Rising Radio Stars Honoured
Nominations for the 2004 Annual Canadian Radio Music Awards Announced

Toronto, Ontario (January 6, 2004) ‚ Canada's hottest music stars will be honoured at the 7th Annual Canadian Radio Music Awards (CRMA) on March 6, 2004. Billy Talent, In Essence, Fefe Dobson, Michael BublÈ, Lillix and Ryan Malcolm are only some of the hot artists nominated in many categories honouring the best new radio music stars in Canada. In previous years, the CRMAs introduced rookies such as Avril Lavigne, Remy Shand, Nickleback and Sum 41.

Presented by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB), the 7th Annual Canadian Radio Music Awards honour Canada's hottest rising radio music stars. The awards will be handed out at a gala luncheon on Saturday, March 6, 2004, 12:30 p.m. at the Westin Harbour Castle Convention Centre, Toronto, as part of Canadian Music Week celebrations.

"It's great to see our music stars realize their dreams," said Glenn O'Farrell, President and CEO of the CAB. "I congratulate this year's nominees and applaud Canada's private radio broadcasters for their constant commitment to cultivate and promote up-and-coming artists in this country."

"The impressive list of nominees represents Canada's best artists, heard this year on Canadian private radio," said Gary Slaight, President and CEO of Standard Broadcasting Corporation and one of the founders of the awards. "Paying tribute and recognizing artists who launch their careers with the help of private radio is at the heart of the CRMAs. It's a great way to celebrate the important relationship between music artists and Canadian private radio."

Again this year, the CRMA Fans' Choice Award will be presented. Radio listeners from across the country can vote online for their favourite radio artist at the Canadian Music Week Web site (www.cmw.net).

This year's Canadian Radio Music Awards gala luncheon is hosted by radio personality Carla Collins and includes live performances by Barlow, Three Days Grace, In Essence, Ryan Malcolm, Deric Ruttan and Shaye. Ticket and registration information is available at http://www.cmw.net/radio.htm.

CRMA nominees include artists who have hit the Canadian charts for the first time and who have achieved top airplay in different formats based on radio "spins" as recorded by Nielson Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) in 2003. Winners are determined by industry vote. Three additional non-voting awards will also be presented at this year's ceremony: The FACTOR Breakthrough Award for top airplay for a new artist; The Songwriter Award sponsored by SOCAN for top airplay for a songwriter; and The Chart Topper Award for top overall airplay.
