FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PUNK BAND DOA FIRST RECIPIENT OF
INAUGURAL INDIES HALL OF FAME AWARD
Hosts And Performers Announced For Fourth Annual
Canadian Independent Music Awards
Toronto, Ontario (February 17, 2004)‚ New to this
year's Canadian Independent Music Awards ("The Indies")
is the addition of the Indies Hall of Fame Award. Punk band DOA
will be inducted into the Indies Hall of Fame during the awards
show on Wednesday, March 3, 9 p.m., at the Phoenix Concert Theatre,
Toronto.
"It's important we honour the music and musicians that paved
the way for so much of what is at the core of popular music today
‚ and the creation of the Indies Hall of Fame is certainly part
of this continuing evolution," said Neill Dixon, President
of Canadian Music Week. "There is no more deserving a group
than our first inductee, DOA, for they have played a seminal role
in pushing the envelope of rock and roll through their contribution
to the punk scene and the example they set for so many of today's
artists."
"It is indeed an honour to be inducted into the Canadian Independent
Music Hall of Fame. When you work hard at something for a long time,
it's great for that to be recognized. When I started D.O.A. 26 years
ago, I had no idea it would lead to being so honoured by my peers
and friends," said Joey Shithead Keithley. "It's really
cool that people realize that we were always trying to effect positive
change in this world with our music and lyrics. I started out trying
to change the world to a better place and my passion for that is
still very much alive. Together we can move mountains. My friends,
mountains we will move."
DOA, the longest reigning punk act in Canada with 26 years in the
Canadian music industry, will be the first recipients of the Indies
Hall of Fame Award having performed over 3000 shows, sold more than
500,000 records and had a best selling book, "?I Shithead?
A Life In Punk?"
Presented by 102.1 The Edge and Chart Magazine and sponsored by
FACTOR, Nielsen Soundscan, Max Trax and Playindies, "The Indies"
