National Songwriting Contest Entry Forms Available Mid
October
Toronto, Ontario‚ Self-published or non-published
songwriters from across Canada are invited to enter the National
Songwriting Competition, one of the many events being held
during Canadian Music Week (CMW), March 3 to March
6, 2004 at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto. Entry forms
will be available as of mid October at participating radio stations
(see list below) and music stores nationwide and on the Internet
at www.canadianmusician.com.
All entries must be received by participating radio stations no
later than 5 p.m. on December 5, 2003. Regional
winners will be announced between January 5 to 14, 2004. The grand
prize winner will be announced on March 6, 2004.
Standard Radio, Songwriters Association
of Canada, The SOCAN Foundation, along
with participating radio stations will sponsor Canada's National
Songwriting Competition. Entrants will compete for a grand prize
of $10,000 in cash; 30 hours of mixing and mastering time from METALWORKS,
Canada's #1 recording studio; production time from John Wozniak
(Marcy Playground); website design by Simaltech.com; and a promotional
release of the winning song by BMG Music Canada.
"The exposure and support awarded to winners
and finalists of the National Song Competition is, and always has
been, first rate. It is an excellent opportunity for developing
writers with strong songwriting skills to further their career goals,"
says Sean Mulligan, Executive Director of the Songwriters Association
of Canada.
"Songwriters are the lifeblood of the music industry ó a
fact we acknowledge by presenting this exciting contest," says
Gary Slaight, President of Standard Radio.
Each year, the National
Songwriting Competition attracts thousands of songwriters. Regional
finalists are picked by participating radio stations with the best
songwriter from each region receiving an all-expenses paid trip
to Canadian Music Week, a private seminar with one of Canada's most
successful songwriters, an IBANEZ PF20 Spruce Plytop Acoustic Guitar,
SENNHEISER Studio/Live package including E 865 condenser vocal microphone,
stand, cable, HD 280 Professional headphone, TASCAM's CD-GT1 and
a copy of MasterWriter - a complete collection of writing tools for
the modern songwriter. The grand prize winner is decided by a panel
of industry experts put together by the Songwriters Association
of Canada.
