Winner Announced For National Songwriting Competition
Toronto, Ontario (March 6, 2004) ‚ Canadian Music
Week and the Songwriters Association of Canada announced tonight
Lea Longo, from Montreal, PQ, as the grand prize winner of the National
Songwriting Competition. Longo beat 11 other finalists with her
song "Ugly" as chosen by a panel of industry experts.
First runner-up was Steven MacDougall of Halifax, NS.
Presented by Mix 99.9 and sponsored by Standard Radio in association
with the Songwriters Association of Canada, The SOCAN Foundation and participating radio
stations, regional winners performed two songs each at the Songwriters
Showcase at The Rivoli, Toronto. This year's showcase was hosted
by Barlow and featured a special guest performance by Tal Bachman.
The grand prize included $10,000 in cash; 30 hours of mixing and
mastering time from METALWORKS, Canada's #1 recording studio; production
time from John Wozniak (Marcy Playground); Web site design by Simaltech.com;
and a promotional release of the winning song by BMG Music Canada.
First runner-up received $2500 cash.
