Charles Mikami

Charles Mikami is the Creative Director of International Repertoire at Sony Music Publishing Japan Inc. (SMP). Charles began working at Sony Records International (Sony Music Entertainment Japan) in 1988, where he was assigned to marketing coordination. After 2 years of building relationships with international artists and Japanese media, Charles moved on to promotion department and enjoyed his career as a radio/TV promo staff.

Working 5 years on the promotion team, his next role was to be a marketing/product manager and break more acts in Japanese market.

During his 3 years of task, he was responsible for diverse artist roster, from the hard rocking Metallica to contemporary Hawaiian music trio Na Leo, and Seattle's post grunge power pop group The Presidents Of The United States Of America, to name a few.

Back again as a promo chief, he was greatly involved in breaking Lauryn Hill's first solo album as well as promoting the record-breaking Mariah Carey's "#1" album.

Just before arriving on board at the creative team of SMP, he spent 2 years at Import Disc division to add another aspect of music business to his carreer.

Currently, Charles has been pitching songs to Japanese artists, looking for sub publishing deals, placing master to record labels, amongst various other various opportunities to exploit SMP's catalogue, as an A&R staff. His experience on the record side of business and fostered relationship with different labels now act as the main force of his new mission at SMP.
