Duff Roman
Duff Roman is Vice President, Industry Affairs and Digital Radio Operations for CHUM Radio.
Duff is a native Western Canadian who hails from Swift Current, Saskatchewan. During his early radio career as an announcer, Duff worked at CKSW Swift Current, CHAT-TV & Radio Medicine Hat, CKRC Winnipeg, CFRW Winnipeg and CHED Edmonton.
As an on-air personality in Toronto, Duff has been associated with CKEY, CKFH (now 590 The Fan) and, of course, CHUM.
In 1974, he was appointed Program Director of CHUM-FM Toronto where, in October 1984, he was appointed Operations Manager and directed the repositioning of CHUM-FM as Canada's foremost Adult Rock radio station.
In 1988, Duff was appointed Vice President Industry Affairs. In November 1999, he assumed the added responsibilities of Vice President, Digital Radio Operations.
Duff was named Broadcaster of The Year by the Ontario Association of Broadcasters in March, 1996. On October 29th, 2001, he was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) Hall of Fame.
Mr. Roman is very active in broadcasting industry matters. He is President of Digital Radio Roll-Out Inc. (DRRI) and is a member of the WorldDAB Steering Committee. Duff is a director on the Radio Board and a recent past Chair of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. He chaired the Department of Communications Task Force on the Introduction of Digital Radio, Working Group 3, addressed to the development of guidelines for auxiliary data services.
Duff was the private radio sector's delegate to the federal
government's Task Force on the Future of the Music Industry
in Canada. He is currently on the Advisory Board of Ryerson
Polytechnical University. In the recent past, Duff has participated
in various other industry associations and committees, including
the Government of Ontario Advisory Committee on a Cultural
Industries Sectoral Strategy and the Advisory Committees of
Humber College, Seneca College and Centennial College.
Duff Roman is a Director and the founding President of FACTOR, the Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Records. He has also served as 1st Vice President and a Director on the Board of CARAS, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Duff has a long-time association with the Variety Club.
