Gary Anderson
As the Vice-President of Bell Canada's portal division, Gary
is responsible for the overall vision and strategy behind
Bell.ca and Sympatico.ca, one of Canada's leading Internet
portals visited by more than 5 million on-line Canadians each
month. Gary has an extraordinary track record in the Internet
business in Canada and offers as tremendous insight into the
industry. Gary first joined BCE/Bell Canada in 1989 with an
organization that would become WorldLinx. During this time
Gary managed the Vis-ý-Vis desktop conferencing business.
In 1993 and 1994 Gary opened sales offices in the U.S. and
in the U.K. expanding the distribution of Vis-ý-Vis through
reseller channels in Europe and Asia.
In 1995 Gary led Bell's e-business group, creating the first
Corporate Internet Access, and Web Server Farm service in
Bell. In 1996, Gary moved to MediaLinx as Vice-President,
Sales and Business Development for Sympatico. These were the
heady days of explosive growth in the industry, and Gary was
responsible for conceiving and implementing Sympaticoís first
revenue model and built the first advertising sales team.
He managed the relationship for the joint venture with Telemedia
which created Netlife magazine. And he navigated through the
interesting relationship with Canoe.ca, of which BCE owned
45% at the time.
Gary took a leave of absence to participate in the dot.com
explosion in January 2000 when he was a co-founder of CompanyDNA.
CompanyDNA built a platform for running company incentives
online and was one of the few companies to gain second round
financing in February 2001 for $24M. Gary rejoined the BCE
family last year as Senior Vice-President of Business Development
for BGM Interactive. In this capacity Gary helped lead the
GlobeInvestorGOLD.com project and secured a significant co-brand
with TD Waterhouse. Assessing a steady stream of inbound opportunities,
Gary has been instrumental in the growing synergy across different
groups within BGM Interactive.
Gary co-founded two key industry associations: CATS (Consortium
for Audiographic Teleconferencing) and the IABC (Internet
Advertising Bureau of Canada). A frequent industry speaker
at high-profile events including Comdex, Telecon, and The
Canadian Institute of Technology, Gary has presented to dozens
of associations on topics ranging from Strategic Partnerships
for Success to The Internet's Affect on Consumer Brands.
Gary and Michelle are proud parents of four children and reside
in Burlington. When not steering Canada's leading Internet
properties, Gary, can often be found at anyone of a number
of hockey arenas in Ontario either coaching or watching one
of his children.
