Jay Brown
Jay Brown erupted onto the music scene as an ambitious intern back in 1991 under the guidance of Billy Moss at More Better Music. Soon after, Jay obtained another internship with Mercury Records' A&R department, working with Chell Carter. Igniting his passion for music, Jay secured his first job as an assistant/coordinator for Avator Records. Jay's hard work led him to Judith Bright who hired him at Quincy Jones Music Publishing where he signed producers Rory Bennett and Marc Kinchen. After honing his skills for six months, Jay was promoted to Creative Director of A&R.
Over a year later, Jay served as consultant for Qwest Records and quickly advanced to Vice President of A&R. Jay groomed and fueled numerous projects, such as Tevin Campbell, Tamia, and the Sprung and Steel soundtracks.
After many successful years with Qwest, Jay found his home with Elektra Entertainment Group in 1999 as Vice President of A&R. Jay has significantly contributed to Elektra's successful roster which includes Missy Elliott, Lil' Mo, Tweet, Nate Dogg, Blaque, Knocturnal, Angie Martinez, Joonie, Nicole Wray, TC, Mocha, Karen Clark Sheard and many more.
Being an A&R executive could be overwhelming and exhausting, but Jay Brown has the same drive that got him in this game 12 years ago. "The Music Industry is not a nine-to-five job, it's a lifestyle. And this is a lifestyle I wouldn't change for anything," said the now Senior Vice President of A&R at Elektra Entertainment.
