Ted Guggenheim
Before graduating from the University of Colorado Business School with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Ted became Director of the CU Program Council in 1984 and 1985. Program Council provided his introduction to the music industry as he brought a variety a musical talent to the campus, including bands like R.E.M., The Smiths and Van Halen.
In 1987, Ted moved to New York City where he worked for the prestigious Frontier Booking International as an assistant booking agent. Six months later he was hired by Kim Turner, at KRT Management, the personal manager for international superstar, STING. In 1990 Ted brought indie-rock band The Samples to KRT, whom he co-managed with Mr. Turner until 1993. At that time he took over full management responsibilities for The Samples and returned to Boulder, Colorado where the band was based. Before leaving New York, however, Ted and former EMI record Exec. Rob Gordon created What Are Records?, which became The Samples exclusive record company for many years. Together, Guggenheim and Gordon took the band from a local success story to national prominence selling over a million records and grossing millions of dollars on the road.
In 1999 Ted left the management world to become Head Talent Buyer for Clear Channel Communications in Denver. During his tenure as Head Talent Buyer for Clear Channel Concerts, he promoted shows throughout the area, in a variety of venues, from the infamous Fox Theatre in Boulder to the world renown Red Rocks Amphitheater.
June of 2001 found Ted back together with Rob Gordon as G.M./Sr. V.P. of What Are Records/At-Source Distribution. Together Gordon and Guggenheim worked hard to devise a creative new approach to a failing record distribution system. The outcome was AT-SOURCE Distribution, which allowed "developed artists" to maintain control over the profitability of their own releases, without having to employ a full-time staff or incur the overhead and out of pocket marketing costs necessary to sell records. Artists such as Frank Black, Lloyd Cole and David Wilcox, signed up and explored this exciting new business model.
In January 2003, after submitting to a steeply declining CD sales market, Ted took the Business Development reins at another Boulder based company. CelebrityAccess, the leading Entertainment Industry provider of real-time access to 30,000 Entertainers, Speakers, Celebrities, and their representatives. CelebrityAccess is also recognized as the publisher of the Music Industry's, ENCORE newsletter read by 40,000 professionals each week.
Since joining the company Ted has overseen the development of exciting new site features including the newly launched 7,000 venue and 2,000 talent buyer databases, as well as, the addition of Box Office Scores and a completely new site design. 2004 stands to be a milestone year for CelebrityAccess as they change the standard of Information and News distribution to the Live Performance Industry and the professionals that make events happen.
