Terry O'Brien
Based in Vancouver, BC, Terry O'Brien is a currently a Member Services Representative for the West Coast Division of SOCAN - the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada.
Terry has over twenty-eight years experience in the music industry as a music publisher, composer, musician and recording artist, producer, DJ, consultant, teacher as well as various positions in wholesale and retail music sales.
Prior to joining SOCAN in 2000, he held the position of Vice President & General Manager of BMG Music Publishing Canada Inc., where he worked for ten years in their Toronto head office.
During his time at BMG, Terry was also a Director of the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA), BMG Ricordi Canada and sat as an Executive Board Member of the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA). He has served as a Juno Awards judge, a FACTOR Super Jury member and has appeared on numerous panels for SOCAN, Canadian Music Week, New Music West, Winter Music Conference, Canadian Country Music Week, Songwriters Association of Canada's Date with a Tape, and others.
After leaving BMG Canada in late 1997, Terry remained under contract to BMG Music Publishing U.S. as a consultant until 1999.
In 2002 Terry returned again to his creative roots and has since released two CDs of ambient soundscapes on his indie micro label, Disappearing Music.
