FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Finger Eleven, The Trews, George Canyon,
Gary Beals, Kalan Porter Top 2005 Annual Canadian Radio Music Awards
Nominations
Toronto, Ontario (January 13, 2005) - Canada's
hottest music stars will be honoured at the 8th Annual Canadian
Radio Music Awards (CRMA) on March 5, 2005. Finger Eleven, The
Trews, George Canyon, Gary Beals and Kalan Porter
are among the artists nominated in seven categories honouring the
hottest new radio music stars in Canada. In previous years, the
CRMAs introduced rookies such as Avril Lavigne, Sam Roberts, Nickelback
and Sum 41.
Presented by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters
(CAB), the 8th Annual Canadian Radio Music Awards will be handed
out at a gala luncheon on Saturday, March 5, 2005, 12:30 p.m. at
the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, as part of Canadian Music Week
celebrations.
"It is remarkable to see year after year the rise
of such musical talent," said Glenn O'Farrell, President and CEO
of the CAB. "This year's nominees have to be congratulated for their
achievements made possible in part by the relentless support and
encouragement of Canada's private radio broadcasters."
"The CRMA
nominees for 2005 represent Canada's rich musical talent and the
dedication of private radio broadcasters to promote these up and
coming music stars," said Gary Slaight, President and CEO of Standard
Broadcasting Corporation and one of the founders of the awards.
"We welcome this opportunity to celebrate the important relationship
between music artists and Canadian private radio at this premiere
entertainment and broadcasting event."
Again this year, the CRMA
Fans' Choice Award will be presented. Radio listeners from across
the country can vote online for their favourite radio artist at
the Canadian Music Week Web site (www.cmw.net).
This year's Canadian Radio Music Awards gala luncheon is hosted
by radio personality Carla Collins and includes live performances
by George Canyon, Matt Dusk, Simon Wilcox and K-OS,
as well as a special tribute to Broadcasting Hall of Fame Inductee,
Gordon Lightfoot. Ticket and registration information is
available at http://www.cmw.net/.
CRMA nominees include artists
who have hit the Canadian charts for the first time and who have
achieved top airplay in different formats based on radio "spins"
as recorded by Nielson Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) in 2004. Votes
cast by music directors, program directors and on-air personalities
determine the winners. Three additional non-voting awards will also
be presented at this year's ceremony: The FACTOR Breakthrough Award
for top airplay for a new FACTORsupported artist; The Songwriter
Award sponsored by SOCAN for top airplay for a songwriter; and The
Chart Topper Award for top overall airplay.
