CMW's Music Industry Awards Honour
Canada's Best in Music and Broadcast Industries
Music Industry Giant Brian Robertson and Canadian Broadcasting Mogul Gary Slaight Among Those To Be Honoured
on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Canadian Music Week
Toronto, Ontario (February 18, 2005) - Brian Robertson
and Gary Slaight will be among those honoured at the Canadian Music
Industry Awards (CMIA) gala dinner on Thursday, March 3 at 6:30
pm, part of this year's Canadian Music Week (CMW) festivities.
The annual awards recognize outstanding achievement in some 30 different categories covering every aspect of the music and broadcast industries. While Robertson and Slaight will be inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame, other nominees will be honoured for their achievements in such categories as Radio Station of the Year, Major Record Label of the Year and Canadian Talent Development Story of the Year. The Canadian Music Industry Awards will be hosted by celebrated comedian Mike Bullard and will feature performances by music legends Blue Rodeo, and Canadian favorite Tom Cochrane.
Presenting to Brian Robertson will be CARAS Chair Ross Reynolds, and Randy Lennox, President of Universal Music Canada will present to Gary Slaight.
This year's nominations were compiled by a diverse group of over
100 industry professionals. Winners are determined by industry vote.

About Brian Robertson
Noted as one of the most highly respected figures in the Canadian music industry, Brian Robertson recently announced that he will soon be stepping down as President of the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) after 30 years. In this role, Robertson serves as the principal spokesperson for the Canadian recording industry. He will remain with CRIA as Chairman Emeritus in a consulting capacity. Robertson has been a passionate advocate of Canadian artists and music, and was the driving force in founding and heading a number of national cultural and other organizations including the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), the AV Preservation Trust, the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Foundation and the Audio-Video Licensing Agency (AVLA). Brian Robertson is currently a Governor of the Corporation of Roy Thomson Hall and Massey Hall, a member of the Dean's Committee at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music and Honorary Chair of the Regent Park Inner City Music School.
About Gary Slaight
Gary Slaight is widely regarded as a trailblazer in Canada's broadcasting
industry. Slaight is President and Chief Executive Officer of the
largest privately owned multi-media company in Canada, Standard
Broadcasting Corporation Limited which includes, besides broadcasting,
a retail marketing services company. Standard Broadcasting Corporation
now has 51 radio stations and two television stations across the
country. It has a 40% equity interest in Sirius Canada, Inc.; 30%
in each of Milestone Radio Inc. and The Haliburton Broadcasting
Group Inc.; 25% in Martz Communications Group, LLC, a U.S. broadcaster;
and 24% in 3937844 Canada Inc. which holds 19 licenses in rural
Alberta and Calgary. In addition, it has minority interest in Maplecore
Ltd., Milestone Media Broadcasting (Edmonton) Ltd., and Puretracks/Moontaxi.
