Brian Robertson

Brian Robertson headed the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) for 30 years and currently serves as Chairman Emeritus.

He was one of the founders of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), which administers the Juno Awards for Canadian music excellence. He served as CARAS President from 1978 to 1983. He was Executive Producer of the nationally televised awards presentations for nine years, and was honoured by CARAS with its Special Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the Canadian recording industry.

Mr. Robertson has been a passionate supporter of Canadian artists and Canadian culture and he was the co-creator of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards. The awards gala, which is televised annually on the CBC English and French language networks, acknowledges lifetimes of achievement in the performing arts and successfully showcases the finest performing artists from both French and English Canada.

Mr. Robertson is currently a Governor of the Corporation of Roy Thomson Hall and Massey Hall, a member of the Dean's Committee at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music, a board member of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Foundation and Honourary Chair of the Regent Park inner-city music school.

He is Past President of the AV Preservation Trust of Canada and the Toronto Arts Awards Foundation and a past Governor of the Shaw Festival and the National Theatre School. Mr. Robertson has been inducted into the recording industry's Hall of Fame and is the only Canadian nominee of the 1994 International Montblanc de la Culture Award.
