Gary Anderson

Gary is currently Vice President of Bell Canada Consumer Internet Services responsible for both Sympatico.msn.ca and Bell.ca Portal. Prior to Bell acquiring 100% ownership of Sympatico in February 2003, Gary was President of Sympatico Inc. and Sympatico-Lycos. In this capacity Gary was responsible for the overall strategic vision behind Sympatico-Lycos and its portfolio of properties.

Gary has an extraordinary track record in the Internet business in Canada and offers as tremendous insight into the industry. Gary first joined BCE/Bell Canada in 1989 with an organization that would become WorldLinx. During this time Gary managed the Vis-ý-Vis desktop conferencing business. In 1993/'94 Gary opened sales offices in the U.S. and in the U.K. expanding the distribution of Vis-ý-Vis through reseller channels in Europe and Asia.

In 1995 Gary led Bell's e-business group, creating the first Corporate Internet Access, and Web Server Farm service in Bell.

In 1996, Gary moved to MediaLinx as Vice-President, Sales and Business Development for Sympatico. These were the heady days of explosive growth in the industry, and Gary was responsible for conceiving and implementing Sympatico's first revenue model and built the first advertising sales team. He managed the relationship for the joint venture with Telemedia which created Netlife magazine, now Click Smart Living. And he navigated through the interesting relationship with Canoe.ca, of which BCE owned 45% at the time.

Gary took a leave of absence to participate in the dot.com explosion in January 2000 when he was a co-founder of CompanyDNA. CompanyDNA built a platform for running company incentives online and was one of the few companies to gain second round financing in February 2001 for $24M.

Gary co-founded two key industry associations: CATS (Consortium for Audiographic Teleconferencing) and the IABC (Internet Advertising Bureau of Canada).

A frequent industry speaker at high-profile events including Comdex, Telecon, and The Canadian Institute of Technology, Gary has presented to dozens of associations on topics ranging from Strategic Partnerships for Success to The Internet's Affect on Consumer Brands. Gary is also on the Board of Bell University Labs, Bell New Media Fund and the Ministers' Technology Advisory Group for the Province of Ontario (MTAG).

Gary and Michelle are proud parents of four children and reside in Burlington. When not steering Canada's leading Internet properties, Gary, can often be found at anyone of a number of hockey arenas in Ontario either coaching or watching one of his three boys.
