JJ Johnston
Jim (JJ) Johnston has lived thirty years of Radio. For the last four years, JJ's position has been that of General Manager of the Corus Radio's Top Cluster, which includes Q107, Mojo Radio, and 102.1 The EDGE.
Previously, JJ has held a variety of positions in Radio, including General Manager of EDGE-TV, General Manager of Mix 99.9, Vice President of Programming for Standard Broadcasting, National Program Director for WIC Communications and National Program Director for Moffat Communications in Canada.
He's been a successful General Manager, Program Director, Music Director, Morning Man, NHL Hockey Sports Analyst/Commentator, and Radio News Anchor. He has successfully programmed AOR, Country, CHR, AC, Alternative, and Classic Rock formats. He is also is a certified General Sales Manager with both the Chris Lytle Organization and the Center for Strategic Selling.
JJ has served on a various Boards throughout the years including the BBM Board, CARAS,BBM, CAB and FACTOR , where he served as Chairman of the Board from 1997 to 1999. He has served the Canadian Association of Broadcasters in many committee roles including the Senate Copyright hearings. He is also a current member of the Board of the Achilles Track Club of Canada. JJ is Canada's leading Radio Programming expert having won Canada's Program Director of the Year Award an unprecedented nine times in a variety of formats. He has succeeded to becoming a member of the CAB Quarter Century Club.
JJ and wife Leafa of 26 years have two sons: Jay and Geordan who is now in radio too. JJ has run 14 marathons and has assisted several visually impaired Achilles Track club athletes through marathons and over the finish line. He has a martial arts brown belt (judo), is a golfer, still plays hockey, a voracious reader, a published writer, financial consultant, improv and team trainer and all around excellent guy, eh.
