John Masecar
John has been a successful Producer in the Radio industry for more than 20 years. Having begun his career as an on-air personality, John's love of sound and the recording process quickly led him into the studio and a series of jobs including a 6-year stint at influential Toronto alt-rocker CFNY (1985-1991). It was during his tenure with "The Spirit of Radio" that John picked up many of the skills that have defined the sound of his work. Additionally his experience as a writer at CFNY has allowed him to contribute to the conceptual side of the creative process.
In 1991 John moved to MIX 99.9 FM Toronto (then known as CKFM). In his 13-plus years with Standard Broadcasting his range of duties has expanded from Commercial Producer to Imaging Producer to Production Director for Standard's Toronto radio group (MIX 99.9 FM, 97.3 EZ Rock, Newstalk 1010 CFRB). Additionally John has produced numerous programs for Standard's national syndication division, Sound Source Networks - including the award-winning Command Performance series, Just For Laughs radio, Net Talk, The Canadian Hot 20, Woodstock '99, the Molson Canadian Rocks Toronto concert for SARS relief, and the new music series Budweiser Radio.
John has had the good fortune to receive numerous Gold, Silver and Bronze awards and certificates from; The Radio Marketing Bureau of Canada (Crystal Awards); The International Radio Festival of New York; Radio and Production Magazine; Arbitron; the Clio Awards; and the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Of special note, John was recipient of the "Gold" Crystal Award for "Sound Design and Production" for 3 consecutive years (2001/2002/2003), a first for any radio station Producer in Canada.
John lives in Hamilton with his wife Eleanor and 3 cats, and spends his off-time playing guitar at a volume that is clearly uncomfortable for anyone within earshot.
