Marty Simon Marty Simon is the founding director of MRD-Music Revenue Data, administering
publishing catalogues worldwide for hundreds of Film and TV programs,
including Vanity Fair, Being Julia, Ice Storm, and Monsoon Wedding
Born in Montreal, he began his musical career at McGill University's
Faculty of Music, and lived/worked in London, Paris, Los Angeles and
Atlanta, before moving to Toronto in 1994. He has written and published
hit songs for Michel Pagliaro, Wilson Pickett, Julien Clerc, Serge
Gainsbourg, Luc Plamondon ("Des Mots qui Sonnent" for CÈline
Dion) among others. Simon has composed and published music for more
than 25 films and has been twice nominated for Gemini music awards.
He has produced workshops and seminars for the Ontario Media Development
Corporation (OMDC) moderating a panel on "How To Get Your Music
Into Television"Öat Canadian Music Week 2003. As a member of
the board of directors of the GCFC (Guild of Canadian Film Composers),
Simon has produced seminars for the Toronto International Film Festival,
(last year bringing in Oscar winning composer Elliot Goldenthal) as
well as seminars on the importance of Music at the Canadian Film Center
in January 2004. He was elected this past year to the board of directors
of SOCAN and also serves on their Tariff and Distribution committee.
Last year, Simon was invited to testify in Ottawa on behalf of SOCAN
before a tribunal on television tariffs. |
