Matt Pinfield

From the day he was born, Matt always knew we wanted to be around music. At 3 years old he sat for hours in front of his family's record player, listening to his older siblings' rock and soul records. By the age of 9, he had his own pirate AM radio station, which he helped his father build in the basement of his suburban New Jersey home. At age 16, he was the youngest disc jockey ever to be granted his own radio show on the college radio station at Rutgers University, WRSU. He continued to do shows with the station and worked as WSRU's music director throughout his college years. In addition to his work at the station, he began producing records for local New Jersey bands. At this time, Matt also started to book bands and DJ at the legendary Melody Club, which spawned many bands from THE SMITHEREENS TO THURSDAY. Throughout his 12 years at the Melody Club, artists from around the world, including NINE INCH NAILS and RADIOHEAD, would come to listen to Matt spin.

In 1984, Matt became music director and program director of WHTG-FM in Asbury Park, New Jersey, one of the first commercial modern rock stations in the country. It was under Matt's leadership that the station gained its success, partly due to his rock credibility with some of the music greats from the area such as Bruce Springsteen. During his 10 years at WHTG, Matt won the prestigious Gavin Award two subsequent years in 92 and 93 for National Commercial Alternative Music Director of the Year. Shortly after he was hired in 1994 to be Manager of Music Programming at MTV, although he started as a fill-in host on the network in 1993. In 1995, he became the permanent host of the influential MTV show "120 MINUTES". Within a year, he became a staple on MTV, hosting a variety of shows-including "120..","MATTROCK","PINFIELD SUITE","PINFIELD PRESENTS", "ROCKS OFF", "SAY WHAT","MTV LIVE"and over 100 specials. His reputation as a music historian made the "STUMP MATT" segments on TRL a regular feature. Matt was also the first VJ brought in to host music hours on MTV2, and helped position and develop the channel in its infancy.

He left MTV at the end of '99, and became the host and writer of the internet/record label/Televison show "FARM CLUB.COM" for Universal Television in Hollywood, which premiered in January of 2000 on the USA network. The show was the 3rd highest rated with the male 12-24 demographic on cable in its first year. It featured interviews and live performances with everyone from Eminem and Destiny's Child, to Limp Bizkit and U2. When the show ended in late 2001, Matt moved back to New York to become Senior Director of A & R and Artist Development for Columbia Records. There, he was responsible for overseeing records for The Osbornes and The WWE, while signing and developing many new artists for the label.

Throughout his years as a music connoisseur, Matt has hosted many world premiere record debuts for SFX, PREMIERE, MJI and ALBUM NETWORKS, with many bands like FOO FIGHTERS, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, COLDPLAY, U2 and many others. He has been a guest host several times on Rockline, the longest running syndicated Rock radio show. Matt also continues to host "THE BUZZ", the Sunday night new music show on K-ROCK which he started in 1996 in New York City. Matt stills guest hosts for MTV on great specials like "25 LOUD" in which Matt was joined by Jack Black, Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Corrola. In addition to hosting, Matt has co-authored a book for Rolling Stone Magazine called "Rolling Stone Raves" and has been quoted on many rock biographies including the best seller "MOON", the biography of WHO drummer Keith Moon. He has also written liner notes for many albums including the book inside the massive 8 cd box set for QUEEN, "THE CROWN JEWELS". Matt has been a guest on PBS's Charlie Rose, Late Night with Conan O'Brian, Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Live with Regis, The Roseanne Barr Show, and has been interviewed as a music expert on MSNBC, FOX NEWS, and CNN.
