Steve Young

Steve has been a broadcast professional for over 32 years working both on-air and in management in several markets in North America. Trained in Communications at York University in Toronto, Steve was also the Program Director of one of the first campus radio stations in Canada, for two years.

Steve worked on the air in several Canadian markets at such stations as CJFM, a Montreal Hot Adult Contemporary station; CKRC, a CHR in Winnipeg; and CITI FM an Album Rock station also in Winnipeg.

Steve's first programming position came at Winnipeg's CITI FM as well, where he was PD for seven years consistently delivering top ratings in all the adult demos as well as several #2 finishes 12+, finishing behind only to the news-talk leader in the market, CJOB. Steve was voted Program Director of the Year in 1985, while serving as Program Director for CJAY FM, Calgary. This was the first year industry awards were given out in Canada.

Steve first became a consultant and research analyst in 1986, joining Joint Communications Corp. and working with clients out of both the Toronto and Atlanta offices.

In 1989, Steve was appointed Program Director of KISW FM in Seattle. For the next six years, Steve delivered top ratings results at the Album Rock station for Nationwide Communications, Inc. As well, Steve served as group PD for Nationwide's Western Region stations; working with Hot AC, CHR and Rock formatted radio stations. Steve garnered five nominations for Billboard Program Director of the Year while serving at KISW and won the award in 1993.

In 1995, Steve started his own consulting firm, Youngradio Management, and included stints as Operations Manager at both WNEW FM and WAXQ FM, in New York City as well as working with clients in Canada and the United States in all flavors of AC, CHR and Rock formats. At WAXQ, Steve took the station from a 22nd place ranking in the 25-54 demo and in three Arbitrons, moved it to 7th place. Steve also served as consultant for Z-100, WKTU and WTJM during his time with AM/FM Inc.

Steve joined Jones Broadcast Programming in October 2000 as a consultant to Rock and Pop formats as well as helping direct the Lifetime Morning Show for AC syndication. Steve is also the Program Director of the 7PM to Midnight Hot AC show hosted by Alan Kabel now on over 80 affiliate stations.

Steve is considered an expert in research analysis and strategic thinking, database marketing, and talent development.
