This is it, the industry enchilada, where drinks
flow, opinions fly and the rankings of Who's Who In The Business
gets shuffled before your very eyes. CMW's annual awards and bun-toss
is an unparalleled social outlet where the best in the industry
get what's coming to them in front of their VIP peers. Our 2005
edition, hosted by comedian Mike Bullard, was an evening of great
entertainment and featured performances by Blue Rodeo and Tom Cochrane
as well as a tribute to the 2005 Canadian Music Industry Hall of
Fame inductees - industry figurehead Brian Robertson and broadcast
veteran Gary Slaight. Canadian icon Gordon Lightfoot was also among
the year's inductees. Lightfoot's induction took place during the
8th Annual Canadian Radio Music
Awards on Saturday, March 5th. The event featured an all-star
musical tribute to Lightfoot's work, including a special performance
by Canadian Idol, Kalan Porter
Noted as one of the most highly respected figures
in the Canadian music industry, Brian Robertson has been a passionate
advocate of Canadian artists and music for many years. After 30
years as President of the Canadian Recording Industry Association
(CRIA), serving as the principal spokesperson for the Canadian recording
industry, Robertson recently announced that he will soon be stepping
down as President but will remain with CRIA as Chairman Emeritus
in a consulting capacity. Robertson has also been the driving force
in founding and heading a number of national cultural and other
organizations including, among others, the Canadian Academy of Recording
Arts and Sciences (CARAS)
Gary Slaight is widely regarded as a trailblazer
in Canada's broadcasting industry. As President and CEO of the largest
privately owned multi-media company in Canada, Standard Broadcasting
Corporation Limited, he is responsible for 51 radio stations and
two television stations across the country. Slaight is also actively
involved in the industry and is a staunch supporter of Canadian
music talent. Not only did he create the National Songwriting Competition
and the Homegrown Contest, which are still running on radio stations
across Canada, but he also created the Canadian Radio Music Awards.

the Canada Music Fund for this project.
