National Songwriting Contest Entry Forms Available Now

Toronto, Ontario (November 17, 2004) - Self-published or non-published songwriters from across Canada are invited to enter the National Songwriting Competition, one of the many events being held during Canadian Music Week (CMW), March 2 to March 5, 2005 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel in Toronto. Entry forms are available now at participating radio stations (see list below) and music stores nationwide and on the Internet at www.canadianmusician.com. All entries must be received by participating radio stations no later than 5PM on December 3, 2004. Regional winners will be announced between January 3 to 14, 2005. The grand prize winner will be announced on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Canadian Music Week.

Standard Radio, Songwriters Association of Canada and The SOCAN Foundation, along with participating radio stations will sponsor Canada's National Songwriting Competition. Entrants will compete for a grand prize of $10,000 in cash, 30 hours of mixing and mastering time from METALWORKS, (Canada's #1 recording studio); a NEUMANN TLM 127 Multi-Polar Pattern professional studio microphone, a TASCAM SX-1LE Plus Digital Production Environment, a national radio promotion package valued at $2,500.00 sponsored by dB Promotions & Publicity Inc. and a promotional release by Warner Music Canada.

"We are proud to support the National Songwriting Competition. As the only organization in Canada comprised solely of songwriters, we recognize the value of initiatives such as this. We all need and appreciate a little help along the way." says Stan Meissner, President of the Songwriters Association of Canada.

Gary Slaight, President of Standard Radio remarks, "Songwriters are one of the life bloods of the music industry. We acknowledge their importance by supporting and presenting this exciting contest."

Each year, the National Songwriting Competition attracts thousands of songwriters and this year’s competition is endorsed by Canada's own, very successful Fefe Dobson. Regional finalists are picked by participating radio stations with the best songwriter from each region receiving an all-expenses paid trip to Canadian Music Week, a private seminar with one of Canada's most successful songwriters, a GARRISON G-30-CE Sitka Spruce Acoustic Guitar, a SENNHEISER Studio/Live package including E 865 condenser vocal microphone, stand, cable and HD 280 professional headphones, a copy of MasterWriter - a complete collection of writing tools for the modern songwriter; and an invitation to an intimate Songwriters Showcase on March 5th in Toronto. Plus…all entrants receive a one-year subscription to Canadian Musician magazine.

The grand prize winner is decided by a panel of industry experts put together by the Songwriters Association of Canada.
