Canadian Music Week's Xtreme Band Slam was created to recognize and celebrate the talents of unknown or emerging artists and bring their new music to the forefront of the music industry. The Xtreme Band Slam competition provides the ultimate platform from which to catapult dynamic new talent from unknown to star. It's an incredible opportunity for deserving musicians nationwide. For the last few months, local radio stations across the country have been hosting Regional talent competitions to find the best band to represent their city at the National Level. These Regional competitions are the premier showcase of musical talent throughout Canada. Please see below for a list of all the regional winners.

Each Regional winner automatically qualified at the National level to take part in the Xtreme Band Slam Semi-Finals held on Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4, 2005 at Montana in Toronto during Canadian Music Week. Four bands - two bands from each night - were selected to move on to perform at the National Playdown Finals on Saturday, March 5th at Montana. These bands included: Rides Again and Tupelo Honey (Thursday night's winners) and Madman Orchestra and State Of Shock (Friday night's winners).

GRAND PRIZE WINNER ANNOUNCED!

The Grand Prize winner of this year's Xtreme Band Slam Competition is Tupelo Honey from Edmonton, AB.

TUPELO HONEY

The name is Tupelo Honey. The amazing song-writing and explosive live show of this new band has blown away audience after audience since their arrival on the scene.. Whether its jamming cover tunes with The Trews in front of 10,000 screaming fans or headlining clubs across western Canada, Tupelo Honey's rock machine is quickly becoming the most exciting act in the country.

Tupelo Honey

With killer musicians and a frontman who's voice soars above everything you've ever heard, Tupelo Honey sets the standard to which all other bands must now be judged. With an average age of 24, the group possesses a musical maturity far beyond their years; all having extremely diverse musical backgrounds, yet sharing a collective goal to forge a new and exciting sound in the world of rock music. The band was conceived in February 2003, consisting of Matthew Landry on vocals, Steve Vincent on bass, Daniel Davidson and Tyler Dianocky on guitars, and Greg Williamson on drums. Within months of it's conception, the band was packing local clubs and opening for the "who's-who" of Canadian rock before having a single recording under their belts. With Landry's powerful yet angelic voice, the sonic interplay of the guitarists, and the dynamic precision of the rhythm section, Tupelo Honey stands out as fresh new sound in the rock world.

Much has transpired in a year for the band. Represented by Dirtnap Productions, the band and its management have been hard at work shaping their future. The band is very proud to be part of The Agency Group family, with this comes great opportunity and the affiliation with a world-class booking agency. Tupelo Honey has graced the stage with many of today's finest rock acts, including Thornley, Three Days Grace, Default, The Trews, Vince Neil, Billy Talent, Finger 11, The Tea Party, Wide Mouth Mason, Billy Talent, Stabilo, High Holy Days, and many more. Where most opening acts do nothing more then serve as an ideal time for the audience to purchase liquor or visit the latrine, Tupelo Honey consistently captivate their audiences and force them to remember the name of the band that just blew them away. As a headliner Tupelo Honey has played all the major rock venues in their hometown of Edmonton, Alberta as well as performing live on the A-Channel "Big Breakfast" show. The band's first released single "Why I Bother" is in rotation at 100.3 The Bear in Edmonton, 106.1 The Goat in Lloydminster and CJ 92 in Calgary. It has charted in the count downs in Edmonton and Lloydminster.

The much anticipated debut release came in the form of a 6 song ep. The tracks were re-recorded by Phil Anderson, mixed by Graham Brewer and finally mastered by Nick Blagona at Metalworks in Toronto. The album was released in January of '05 and sold over 700 copies in month 1.

Influenced by everything yet sounding like nothing else, Tupelo Honey is a new and powerful voice in the music world. The interest in this band grows bigger everyday, and everyone in the industry is talking about the group that has come out of nowhere to become the new buzz band of Canada. They are that one band you can't afford to miss.

As the Grand Prize Winner of the Xtreme Band Slam Finals, Tupelo Honey reaps over $50,000 in prizes, including:
